Our Story

When Tim and I first got engaged, we took a long time to pick a date.  One reason was that we were in the midst of moving to London, England, which kept us pretty busy!  But the other reason was that we had such different views of what our wedding would look like.  Tim had always imagined having a big, formal, traditional wedding.  I had always imagined having an intimate, informal, funky wedding.  What to do?  Then one day, out of the blue, I looked at Tim and said, "What if we had a Steampunk wedding?"  We looked at each other and smiled.  It was perfect.

What is Steampunk, you ask?    It's an underground Art and Fashion movement that's based on how the future was imagined by people in the Victorian age.  Think Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days.  Think H.G. Wells' The Time Machine.  Think steam-powered robots held together with leather straps and brass rivets.  For more info on Steampunk, check out the FAQs tab.

How is this perfect for our wedding, you ask?   Well, nobody does formal like the Victorians did, so Tim gets to have his wish for formal, while I get to feel like the whole thing is a huge art project, and be as creative as I want.

What should I wear to a Steampunk wedding, you ask?   Wear something fabulous, of course!  Whatever 'fabulous' means to you; the more fancy or formal, the better.  And if that happens to involve a top hat or kid gloves, well, fabulous!

We're having an absolute blast creating this event together.  Although when we started the creative process we rarely saw see eye-to-eye on anything, by the end of the discussions we almost always come up with something even better than what either one of us came up with alone.  We hope we'll see you there.

Our Mutual History

Our story starts at the tail end of 2009.  In our very first phone conversation, I said to Tim, "Tell me something interesting about yourself."  He, always game, answered, "I have a seven-foot-tall alien in my living room."  Asking something interesting about me, I responded, "My middle name is Rainbow."  We decided to meet for sushi, and the rest, as they say, is history.  Since then we have traveled and adventured together, we've gone to comic book conventions, Burning Man, family reunions, and music festivals.  Tim has visited my extended family in Seattle, and I've gone with his extended family to San Diego.

Our flat in London.
After almost a year and a half of dating, Tim and I got engaged in April of 2010 and moved to London, England together two months later.  We moved into a flat owned by the drummer of the 80's band Wang Chung (no joke!) that is close enough for Tim to walk to work at RBC bank in the financial district of London.

Coming back to the States for Christmas, we discovered that we didn't qualify for the Fiance(e) Visa we had planned to apply for me, so I'm unexpectedly spending most of the time till the wedding in Denver, while Tim works at RBC in London.  Once we're married I'll be able to live in the UK with Tim on his visa, so needless to say, August 13th can't come soon enough for us!
